Noida Airport New Name: Is It Really "Narendra Modi International Airport" Now? What Changes and What Does Not
18 October 2026 · Rise Propworld Team
UP's Cabinet approved the Noida airport new name, Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar, on 9 October 2026. Here is what is official, what still needs the Centre, and what it means for flyers and buyers.

On 9 October 2026, Uttar Pradesh gave Jewar's airport a new name, at least on paper. The state Cabinet approved a proposal to call it Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar.
Within days, "noida airport renamed" became a Breakout search in Google Trends for India. So here is the short version first. The Noida airport new name is a state proposal right now, not a finished legal change. The runway, the terminal, the flights and the land around it have not moved an inch.
Below we answer the questions buyers, flyers and our own clients have been asking us since the announcement.
What exactly was announced about the Noida airport new name?
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told reporters after a state Cabinet meeting that the Council of Ministers had approved a proposal to name the airport "Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar". Outlook India, Aviation A2Z and Organiser all reported the decision on 9 October 2026.
Adityanath also said the airport is expected to become Uttar Pradesh's largest airport.
That is the full extent of the official step so far: a state Cabinet approval of a naming proposal.
Is the airport officially renamed yet?
Not yet, based on everything published so far.
A legal explainer published by Legal Maestros on 10 October 2026 sets out how airport naming works in India:
- The state government proposes a name. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has told Parliament that a state can propose a name other than the city's by passing a resolution in its Legislative Assembly.
- The proposal goes to the Centre, where the Union Cabinet ratifies it after consulting the relevant ministries.
- The new name takes effect only when the government notification is published.
The same explainer says reports so far do not show a Union Cabinet approval or an official notification for Jewar. Until that happens, the legal name stays Noida International Airport, and its airport code stays DXN.
Our view: expect the new name to show up on signboards, political speeches and property ads well before it shows up in a gazette.
Why does everyone still call it "Jewar Airport"?
Because that is where it is. The airport sits at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, reached through the Yamuna Expressway. Locals called it Jewar Airport long before construction began, and the proposed name itself keeps "Noida-Jewar" at the end.
If you are searching for flights, use the code DXN. If you are searching for land or homes, keep using "Jewar" and "Yamuna Expressway" too, because that is how most listings and authority documents describe the area.
What does the airport have today?
Here is what has been confirmed, so you can separate the name story from the infrastructure story.

Does the new name change property prices around Jewar?
No name change has ever built a road. What moves land values along this belt is connectivity, approved plans and real demand, and none of those changed on 9 October.
What can change is marketing. Over the next few months you will likely see ads that say "near Narendra Modi International Airport" or "NMIA facing". Treat these exactly like "airport facing" ads. Ask for:
- The sector or village name and the khasra or plot number.
- The road distance, not the aerial distance, to the airport.
- The RERA number if it is a project, or the title chain if it is land.
We have written a full checklist on this in plots near Jewar Airport: the 4 kinds of plots and the checks for each. Our honest take on the broader opportunity is in Jewar Airport property investment: buy near what already works.
Will documents, bookings or addresses need to change?
For buyers, nothing needs to change today. A sale deed or allotment letter describes a property by its sector, plot or khasra and village, not by the name of a nearby airport.
For flyers, airline tickets will show whatever name the airport operator and airlines adopt. Until there is an official notification, booking systems are likely to keep showing Noida International Airport, DXN.
Who decides, and how long could it take?
The Centre has the final say through the Union Cabinet, according to the Legal Maestros explainer. No timeline has been announced. The explainer points to Navi Mumbai International Airport, where the Ministry of Civil Aviation also referred to the need for a state Assembly resolution for a proposed name.
So the honest answer is that nobody can give you a date yet. When the notification comes, we will update this article.
What should a buyer near the airport actually watch instead?
If you are buying within driving distance of the terminal, these are the things that move the needle for daily life:
- Road access. The Yamuna Expressway is the main artery today. Our new Yamuna Expressway route map with every exit explains what sits at Jewar, Tappal, Mathura and Agra.
- Linked expressways. Our opinion piece on the Ganga Expressway link to Noida Airport explains why that link matters more than any rename.
- Phase 2 timing. Phase 2 is expected in 2031-32. Bigger capacity means more jobs on site, which is what supports housing demand nearby.
- Air quality and living conditions. If you plan to live here, not just invest, read our check on Greater Noida AQI before you decide.
Projects near the airport corridor we can show you
Two projects on our list that buyers usually shortlist when they want to stay connected to both Greater Noida and the airport:
- Eldeco Echoes of Eden in Sector 22D, Yamuna Expressway, with 2, 3 and 4 BHK homes listed on our page as RERA registered.
- Hero Homes Sector MU in Greater Noida, listed on our page as about 25 minutes from Jewar Airport, with registrations open.
We will tell you the road distance from each to the terminal on a site visit, not a brochure number.
