Greater Noida West Metro: 5 Stations, 8.4 km and the One Approval Still Pending
03 October 2026 · Rise Propworld Team
The Greater Noida West metro has cleared the Public Investment Board and is waiting on the Union Cabinet. Route, stations, cost, timeline and what it means for buyers, with every source named.

Five lakh people. Zero metro stations. That has been the daily reality of Greater Noida West for years, and it is finally close to changing. The Greater Noida West metro has cleared almost every gate it needs to clear. One signature is still missing.
We live and work in this belt, and the metro is the single question we get asked most on site visits in Noida Extension. So here is a plain Q&A on where the project actually stands as of 3 October 2026, with every number tied to a source we opened.
What is the Greater Noida West metro, in one line?
It is an elevated extension of the Noida Metro Aqua Line that will connect Noida Sector 51 to Greater Noida West Sector 4. Construction World reported on 11 September 2026 that the corridor is 8.4 km long with five stations, and that it is expected to be built by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC).
Today the Aqua Line runs 29.7 km with 21 stations between Noida and Greater Noida, and it opened on 25 January 2019, according to Wikipedia's Noida Metro page. Greater Noida West is the big gap in that map.
Which stations are planned?
Indian Infrastructure, reporting on the Public Investment Board approval in July 2026, listed the likely stations as:
- Noida Sector 61
- Noida Sector 70
- Noida Sector 122
- Noida Sector 123
- Greater Noida West Sector 4
One small catch. The India Daily described the last station as being near Gaur Chowk, while Amar Ujala described Sector 4 as Kisan Chowk. Until NMRC publishes the final station names, treat the exact location of the Sector 4 station as "near the Gaur Chowk and Kisan Chowk stretch" rather than a fixed pin.
How long and how expensive is it?
This is where reports disagree, so we will show you both sides.
| Detail | Most reports | Amar Ujala (7 August 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 8.4 km (Construction World, Indian Infrastructure, The India Daily) | About 7.5 km |
| Cost | About ₹2,000 crore (Construction World put it at 20 billion rupees) | About ₹900 crore |
| Stations | 5 | 5 |
| Build time | About 4 years after work starts | Not stated |
The majority view is 8.4 km and roughly ₹2,000 crore. We would wait for the Cabinet note before quoting either cost figure as final.
Why did the route shrink from 18 km?
The original plan was bigger. Construction World and The India Daily both reported that the first proposal ran about 18 km from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. It was cut to the current alignment because clarity was needed on the proposed Ghaziabad to Jewar rapid rail corridor, which The India Daily described as a 72 km link.
In plain words: the stretch beyond Greater Noida West was parked until the planners know where the rapid rail will run. The first leg was kept alive so residents are not left waiting for both.
What approvals has the Greater Noida West metro already cleared?
Here is the timeline as reported:
- 22 July 2026: Indian Infrastructure reported that the Public Investment Board (PIB) had approved the revised Sector 61 to Greater Noida West Sector 4 project.
- 7 August 2026: Amar Ujala reported the PIB nod and noted that Union Cabinet approval was still awaited, with NMRC to call tenders after that.
- 8 September 2026: The India Daily reported that the Detailed Project Report had reached the Prime Minister's Office and all required no objection certificates were in place.
- 11 September 2026: Construction World quoted Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh confirming that procedural clearances were complete, and said Cabinet approval was expected that month.
So has the Union Cabinet approved it?
As of 3 October 2026, we have not found a published report confirming Union Cabinet approval. The most recent reports we opened, from 8 and 11 September, said approval was expected in September. If you see a forward on WhatsApp saying "metro sanctioned, work starts Monday", ask for the source. Once the Cabinet clears it, the next visible step is an NMRC tender, and that will be public.
We will update this article the day the approval is reported.
When could trains actually run?
Both Construction World and The India Daily said construction is expected to take about four years once work begins. Work begins after the Cabinet nod and the tender. So nobody can give you an honest opening date yet. Anyone promising a 2027 metro ride from Gaur Chowk is guessing.
How many people will it serve?
Construction World and The India Daily both put the number at around 5 lakh residents of Greater Noida West who currently rely on buses, autos and private vehicles. Amar Ujala used a larger catchment figure of over 10 lakh and projected about 2 lakh daily riders. For context, Construction World reported that the existing Aqua Line averaged 61,811 passengers a day in July 2026.
Is this the only Aqua Line expansion?
No, and this matters because it shows the network is genuinely growing. According to Wikipedia's Noida Metro page:
- Botanical Garden to Sector 142: 11.56 km, 8 new stations, estimated ₹2,254 crore. The page says the Union Cabinet approved its detailed project report and budget in February 2026. It will link the Aqua Line with Delhi Metro's Blue and Magenta Lines.
- Depot to Boraki: 2.6 km, 2 new stations, estimated ₹416.34 crore, approved by the central government on 23 July 2025.
Construction World added that Larsen and Toubro has been awarded contracts on the cleared extensions.
What does the Greater Noida West metro mean for property buyers?
Here is our honest take after years of walking these societies.
It helps commuters first, prices second. A metro removes the daily auto and cab battle to Sector 52 or Noida City Centre. That is a real quality of life gain. Whether it moves prices, and by how much, nobody can tell you with a number, and we will not invent one.
Distance to a station will matter more than the society brochure. Once the final station points are notified, walking distance and a safe last mile will separate homes. Societies near the Sector 4 end and the main arterial roads are the obvious watch zone.
Do not pay a "metro premium" on a promise. Until the Cabinet signs and tenders are out, any seller adding a metro surcharge is pricing hope, not infrastructure.
Ready to move still beats paper. If you need a home now, a ready society with possession underway removes one layer of risk. Our ATS HomeKraft Happy Trails project page lists 2 and 3 BHK homes in Sector 10, Greater Noida West, with RERA number UPRERAPRJ15574, and describes the location as close to a proposed metro station. Please check the walking distance yourself on a site visit once the final station is notified.

Our take on the bigger picture: the metro gap is one reason we argue the area deserves better than a borrowed name, in Greater Noida is not Noida's backyard.
